A gas power plant uses gas turbine as prime mover for generating electrical energy. Gas power plant uses natural gas or kerosene or benzene as fuel. Gas power plant can produce only limited amount of electrical energy and the efficiency of the gas turbine is only about 35%. Therefore, it is generally used in combustion with steam/thermal power plant during peak load. The combination of the gas turbine and steam turbine increases the efficiency of the gas power plant upto 60-70%.

Uses of gas power plant : Gas power plant is generally used in petro-chemical industries, thernal processing industries, aircraft, ships and so on.

Working principle of the gas power plant: Gas power plant is expensive to operate. Therefore, it is usually installed with steam power plant in closed combined. The combined cycle gas power plant consists of air compressor, gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator, steam boiler, steam turbine, steam condensor and generator.
